Follow live events in the waters of Šibenik!
Estuary of the river Krka is known spawning of many fish species that have shown the first test photos. Visual materials and data to be collected with the help of an underwater camera, the meteorological station, as well as panoramic camera aimed at Šibenik and probe for measuring the temperature of the sea, scientists will use to monitor the life of that part of the seabed.
Thanks to the collaboration of scientists from the Institute for Marine and Environmental Institute Ruđer Bošković RBI (IRB) and the Association of Šibenik Weather (ŠM), the public is able to follow live the first underwater shots taken by the camera installed in the waters of Martinska near Šibenik at a depth of 5m. The plans for this project were initiated last year, however, due to insufficient financial resources have been postponed for this year. For the realization of the project was spent almost 180 meters of various cables, protection and insulation. The whole system was designed by and implemented Marin Brajković and Darko Begić from Šibenik Weather Association, and Neven Cukrov with RBI.
The system is equipped with a reflector which in summer mode illuminates the seabed daily from 20h to 23h, and the term starts and stops will change depending on changes in the length of day and night.
Šibenik area, thanks to a central position on the Croatian Adriatic and because of the concentrated water connection sections – fresh, brackish and saline water, is extremely suitable for the development of aquaculture and scientific research. This area is the subject of study scientists for many years. Thus, laboratory space RBI in Martinska opened in 1980 precisely in order to study the basic processes and human impact on the natural characteristics of the water, the development of aquaculture, sustainable development of aquaculture and tourism and training of young scientists.
PhD. Neven Cukrov from the Institute for Marine and Environmental Research RBI explained that this joint venture association Šibenik Weather (ŠM) and RBI one of the projects that contribute to the positioning station Martinska as marine observatory and stresses that the scientific community has already expressed interest in collected material.
